Bernhard Egert appointed head of timber construction at UBM

Vienna, March 10, 2022. Bernhard Egert has been appointed Head of “Timber Construction” at UBM Development AG. The real estate developer has built up a competence centre with a total of five experts in recent months to underline the strategic importance of timber construction for UBM. UBM has set itself the goal of becoming Europe’s largest developer of timber buildings.

Martin Löcker, COO of UBM Development AG: “With high-quality projects in timber construction, we are consistently pursuing our path for sustainable, ESG and taxonomy-compliant investments. Our next goal is to realize 100,000 m² in timber construction. I’m looking forward to putting competence, experience and passion for timber construction on a solid footing at UBM with Bernhard Egert and his team.”

Bernhard Egert: “After many years in leading positions on the executive side of the timber construction guild, I am pleased to now be able to contribute my experience and network contacts to UBM. UBM’s strategic orientation towards green. smart. and more. is strong and future-oriented. I am proud to be able to contribute to upcoming timber construction projects as part of the experienced team of UBM project developers with immediate effect.”

Bernhard Egert, 56, is a proven timber construction expert as a master builder, master timber constructor, property developer and court expert. Before joining UBM, Egert was the managing director of Graf-Holztechnik and Rubner Holzbau, among others. The graduate engineer studied at the Vienna University of Technology and earned an MBA at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration. As chairman of a wide variety of expert groups within the timber industry association, he has been contributing to the strengthening of timber construction for many years.

UBM Development has the clear goal of becoming Europe’s market leader in the development of timber buildings. No less than six percent of global CO2 emissions are caused by the production of the concrete and steel used in building construction, as much as by all air, sea and rail traffic combined. Substituting wood for at least part of the concrete and steel is the biggest lever for reducing the carbon footprint of building construction.

UBM Development develops real estate for Europe’s metropolises. The strategic focus is on green building and smart office in major cities such as Vienna, Munich, Frankfurt and Prague. The gold rating from EcoVadis and the prime status from ISS ESG confirm the consistent focus on sustainability. With almost 150 years of experience, UBM offers all development services from a single source, from planning to marketing. The shares are listed in the Prime Market of the Vienna Stock Exchange, the segment with the highest transparency requirements.
